That's what Junior said and we all know Rome wasn't built in a day. View the post race interview here.
Seeing Junior run in the top 5 was exhilarating to say the least. But after making changes to the car that didn't seem to work, Jr finished a respectable 12th.
“One of the things I liked about Lance is I felt like I was in the pit box with him all day, and I felt like he was riding with me all day,” Earnhardt said. “That was a good feeling. Hopefully we can keep that up.”
As a loyal fan of Junior, all I want for Junior is to regain a positive attitude and start running well. A couple of wins would be awesome, but I would be grateful for a top five or top ten.
Speaking of running well or should I say NOT running well, how about Kyle Busch? Is it me or has Kyle Busch gone downhill ever since he took that jab at Junior? Karma? I don't know if I believe in karma or not. But, I do have to admit it is quite a coincidence don't you think?
Well, we'll have to see how things go with Junior. And I feel things are going in the right direction and the decisions that were made were good.
Finally, I want to say that Jimmie Johnson drove his butt off today and even if he didn't dominate the race like he did, he deserved that win hands down. The closing laps were exciting and add the fact that Johnson and Stewart raced clean and hard made it all the better.
Next race is Pocono, here's hoping Junior has a even better finish than he had today.
Hey, one more thing...is it me or is Greg Biffle wearing braces?

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (AP)—A 34-year-old Kansas driver died on Saturday after injuring his head and neck during a crash in a race at Knoxville Raceway.
Chad McDaniel of Concordia, Kan., struck another car during a Midget Nationals race on Friday night, United States Auto Club officials said.
He was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at 12:37 a.m. Saturday, hospital spokesman Gregg Lagan said.
McDaniel had scored five top-10 finishes in six races this season.
“Our sport has lost a passionate racer today, and our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to his family during these most difficult times,” said USAC Racing official Kevin Miller.
McDaniel’s mother said she was touched by the expressions of sympathy and support.
“I’m just shocked,” Dianna McDaniel told The Des Moines Register. “He just had so much going for him.”

Breaking News!
Eury Jr. out as crew chief
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have a new crew chief starting with this weekend's race at Dover.
The team said Thursday that Tony Eury Jr. was replaced as crew chief of Earnhardt's No. 88 team.
They left Dale Earnhardt Inc. last season to drive for Hendrick Motorsports, but they've yet to find consistency despite driving for NASCAR's top team.
"Our performance hasn't been where it should be," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. "It's impossible to pin that on any one factor, but a change is the right decision at this point. We have a plan in place, and we're going to move forward with it."
They have one win in 48 races with Hendrick and are 19th in points. They hit rock bottom with Monday's 40th-place finish at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Team manager Brian Whitesell will be the crew chief this weekend. Lance McGrew will take over next week on an interim basis as team owner Rick Hendrick figures out a long-term plan for NASCAR's most popular driver.
"We're going to put our full resources toward improving the situation and winning races," Hendrick said. "It's going to be a collective effort that includes all of our drivers, all of our crew chiefs and all of our engineers. Everyone in our company will be involved on some level."
As a crew chief, McGrew has posted victories in all three of NASCAR's major touring series. He has won races with drivers Brian Vickers, Jeff Gordon, Ricky Hendrick, Kyle Busch, Mark Martin and Tony Stewart. Read the rest of the story here.

R. Gordon docked 50 points for LMS infractions
NASCAR has issued penalties to the No. 7 team that competes in the Sprint Cup Series as a result of rules violations committed at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Monday.
The No. 7 car, driven and owned by Robby Gordon, was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4I (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-10.6H (rear axle housing exceeded the maximum specified toe of plus or minus one degree) of the 2009 Sprint Cup Series rule book. The violation was found during post-race inspection on May 25.
As a result, Gordon has been penalized with the loss of 50 championship owner and 50 championship driver points. Crew chief Kirk Almquist has been fined $50,000 and placed on probation until Dec. 31.

Daytona will be ready for July race
Photo Credit: Jim ForemanDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A racing official says all flood waters have been pumped out of Daytona International Speedway, and the facility will be ready for the Coke Zero 400 race on the Fourth of July.
Speedway spokesman Andrew Booth said Tuesday that the speedway was not damaged.
Several days of rain drenched Daytona Beach and flooded two parts of the speedway. Water filled a tunnel used by haulers to enter the track and the apron of a viewing area near a manmade lake in the infield.
Daytona Beach received 21 inches of rain last week, leaving nearly waist-deep water in several areas.

Ewww, guess what day it is?
I'm getting ever closer to the big 4..0. I'm 38 today and I'll cry if I want to. LOL!!!Hubby took the day off of work for my birthday. I have no clue what we are going to do considering it's going to rain all day.
Honestly, sleeping in, going out for breakfast, coming home and taking a nap sounds good to me. Then later going out to dinner would be a bonus.
The older I get, the less happier I am about having a birthday and any kind of hoopla surrounding it. But a little pampering never hurt anyone. LOL!

Disappointed
I'm disappointed with Junior.
I'm disappointed with the weather at the race track.
I'm NOT disappointed with the 3pm moment of silence for the troops. That was awesome.
I'm going to a BBQ...
Let me know how the race pans out, would ya?
My guess is that Kyle Busch will win and Junior will be two laps down in 40th or so.
Ack!

Indy 500
Helio Castroneves wins the 2009 Indianapolis 500! After a wave off of the green flag pace lap due to an over anxious start, then a collision of two cars on the first turn of the first lap after the green flag, Helio held his position, nerve, and focus, for 200 laps and 500 miles, to get his face on the Borg-Warner for the third time, beating the closest follower by over 2 seconds!I love Helio! Congrats to Helio and his entire team!

Parts of Daytona track under water
Persistent rains falling on Daytona Beach, Fla., has parts of Daytona International Speedway under water, however, track officials say it will not affect NASCAR's race weekend in July.
Circulating photos show water reaching halfway up the SAFER barriers in some areas of the speedway and the Turn 1 tunnel is filled more than halfway with water.
As for long-term damage to the track's surface, speedway representative Andrew Booth said for now it is not an issue.
"Like much of the surrounding area, we've received a significant amount of rainfall in recent days," he said. "There has been no significant damage at the speedway from the rain but we have had some ponding of water.
"There are a lot of houses and streets that are flooded in our community from our rainfall and we believe that is more of pressing news story than water in our tunnel."
According to local reports, the Volusia County Council declared a state of emergency in the area in light of the historic rainfall amounts recorded (22 to 27 inches) in parts of Volusia and Flagler counties since Sunday when heavy rain began falling.
More rain is expected to fall today.
*On a more personal note. My parents live in Ormond Beach. They live 15 minutes away from the track. My parent's house isn't flooded, and I pray that my parent's house will remain that way.
They have received more than two feet of rain so far and more is to come. Ugh!!!

NASCAR has suspended driver Carl Long for the next 12 Sprint Cup races and fined crew chief Charles Swing $200,000, the largest penalty in the sport’s history.

Yikes!
Mike Skinner came on his radio and said he was OK after a horrifying crash that ended in a collision from T.J. Bell that sent Skinner's truck flying.Click here to view the video.
By the way, Kyle Busch triggered an accident involving race leader Colin Braun and Brian Scott. NASCAR penalized Kyle with aggressive driving and told him to go to the end of the longest line. What a jerk!Click here to view that video.
What really made my night was that Hornaday got around Kyle Busch in the closing laps to win his first race of the 2009 season!
No. 31 crew wins Pit Crew Challenge
The No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet team of driver Jeff Burton won the Pit Crew Challenge and broke the event record last night.
Burton's Pit crew consisted of gas man Curt Bowman, catch-can man Andrew Childers, front-tire changer Daniel Blizzard, front-tire carrier Jon Wallace, rear-tire changer Terry Spalding, rear-tire carrier Chris Martin and jack man Adam North. They each completed their stop including the 40-yard car push in 22.115 seconds.
"I'm really proud of them," said Burton, who attended the event in support of his crew and his wife Kim, who steered the car during the push. "They put so much effort into the pit stops, and they take this very seriously. They truly are athletes, and they work very hard at it."

AP source: Mayfield positive test not for steroids
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—A day after learning Jeremy Mayfield failed a drug test for something other than a performance-enhancer, NASCAR allowed him to drive a race car at Darlington Raceway at speeds up to 173 mph.
A person familiar with the test results told The Associated Press on Thursday that Mayfield’s positive test was not for a performance-enhancing drug. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because NASCAR won’t reveal what banned substance was found in the random test, which ultimately resulted in Mayfield’s indefinite suspension.
NASCAR officials previously announced the drug violation was not alcohol-related, and the administrator of its drug testing program has dismissed Mayfield’s explanation that the positive result came from a mix of a prescription with an over-the-counter medicine.
Under the sport’s toughened policy, that leaves the possibility that Mayfield tested positive for abuse of a prescription drug, narcotics or controlled substances, such as cocaine, marijuana or methamphetamine. Read the entire AP article here.

I couldn't have said it any better!
You have to read Jerry's post about Dale Jr. He took the words right out of my mouth. I'm so frustrated with Junior, I can't even express how I feel without adding a few curse words. So, go here and read what I wanted to say, but without the curse words. LOL!!!
Dale Jr: " I don't need any fair-weather fans"
Posted by Doug Demmons - The Birmingham News May 09, 2009 12:07 AM
Dale Earnhardt Jr. seemed to be in an especially bad mood Friday when he met with reporters. He was asked what he thought about his fans being so loyal during his recent struggles. Here's his reply:
"That's what fans are for. That's what they do. I wouldn't call a guy a fan if he jumped ship in the middle of the season if a guy is doing poorly or a team is doing poorly in any sport. I don't need any fair-weather fans. I appreciate the ones that are loyal."
A bit later someone asked him, "What's got you frustrated? You seem a little bit more on edge.
"You go sit in that car," Earnhardt said. "It's not fun."
If I were under the kind of pressure he's under I'd probably be biting someone's head off too. It's a shame to see because he is normally pretty easygoing and affable.
You can read a transcript of the entire Q&A below.
HOW'S THE CAR WORKING? "It's fine. We're working on it."
WHAT DOES THE TRACK FEEL LIKE WITH THE SURFACE A YEAR OLDER NOW? "The same. The same as last year."
WHY DO YOU THINK WE ARE SEEING SO MANY PEOPLE GET OUT OF SHAPE? "The tire is real hard. It's slick."
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF NASCAR'S DRUG TESTING POLICY AS IT RELATES TO ALL THE PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING IN OTHER SPORTS? "I don't know. I don't do drugs so I don't have nothing to worry about. I've got no opinion otherwise."
YOU GUYS HAD A CHALLENGE LAST WEEK, CAN YOU TELL US THE REAL DEAL SO IT'S NOT OVER INFLATED? "Well ya'll saw what happened. Why do I got to comment on it? It don't help nothing to talk about it. Not for me. My team has had enough crap from everybody else. I don't need to weigh in on it. Ya'll saw what happened and ya'll can say what you want to say. We're working on it and we're trying to fix it.
"I'm pretty sure that guy will concentrate harder and try not to make that mistake this time. We had three screw jacks in the car, one in the track bar adjustment and one in each screw jack in the right rear. I don't think anybody would have been able to make all them adjustments correctly under the heat of the fire. I don't have any hard feelings at all. If the car is not so far off we don't have to make that many adjustments under one stop."
ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT HOW THE RACE WILL BE GIVEN THE TIRES ARE REAL HARD? "Well they were last year and it will be the same race that we had last year."
I KNOW WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED RACING HERE YOU DIDN'T THINK TOO HIGHLY OF THIS PLACE, BUT NOW AFTER FIVE STRAIGHT TOP-10 FINISHES ARE YOU FEELING A LITTLE BIT MORE LOVE FOR DARLINGTON? "Well it's alright. I don't really enjoy it that much. It's alright. I don't know. I've got to run. It's my job whether I like it or not."
WE'RE NOT THAT FAR FROM MYRTLE BEACH SPEEDWAY WHERE YOU SPENT A LOT OF YOUR DEVELOPMENTAL YEAR, WHEN YOU LOOK BACK ON THOSE YEARS HOW MUCH FUN WERE THOSE LATE MODEL DAYS? "When you're doing that kind of stuff you don't realize how good you've got it and how lucky you are. There was a lot of pressure and a lot of worry just like there is today. You don't understand what opportunity you have at that age. I did poorly in trying to enjoy it. Every week if we didn't run in the top-three it was a failure just like it is up here."
ON HIS FANS BEING SO LOYAL THROUGH HIS STRUGGLES THIS YEAR. "That's what fans are for. That's what they do. I wouldn't call a guy a fan if he jumped ship in the middle of the season if a guy is doing poorly or a team is doing poorly in any sport. I don't need any fair-weather fans. I appreciate the ones that are loyal."
HIS THOUGHTS ON MARK MARTIN COMING BACK TO RUN FULL TIME NEXT SEASON. "I knew it was coming. It's good. I'm happy. He's awesome, an awesome guy."
IS IT DIFFERENT AT NIGHT AS OPPOSED TO RUNNING NOW? "It will be not as hot to the touch and maybe a little more grip. It's a tough race track. Its two lanes, one groove and hard to pass. It's real, real hard. This is the hardest place to pass on the circuit."
WHAT'S GOT YOU FRUSTRATED? YOU SEEM A LITTLE BIT MORE ON EDGE. "You go sit in that car. It's not fun."

Pfft!
Why is it that FOX is on a commercial every time a caution occurs? That is really frustrating, but not as frustrating as Junior's performance thus far in the race. I'm rooting for Truex Jr.
Mayfield suspended for substance abuse violation
Sprint Cup driver Jeremy Mayfield and two crewmen have been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR for violating the sport's substance abuse policy, series vice president Jim Hunter said Saturday at Darlington Raceway.
Suspended along with Mayfield were Tony Martin, a crewman on the No. 34 Sprint Cup team of driver Tony Raines, and Ben Williams, a crew member with the No. 16 Nationwide Series team of Roush Fenway Racing, which won Friday night's event with driver Matt Kenseth.
Hunter would not specify what substances were taken, but did say the violations were for more than merely alcohol use. The violations were found as a result of testing last week at Richmond.
"We have a zero-tolerance approach in our substance abuse policy, and we're going to stick with that," Hunter said. "The path to come back to auto racing is up to the individual."
The violations, Hunter said, were as a result of NASCAR's random testing policy, which went into effect this season.
Mayfield, 39, is a five-time winner on NASCAR's premier circuit. He is currently operating his own race team. "He is suspended as an owner and a driver," Hunter said. "His team could be operated by somebody else, but Jeremy will not be allowed to participate."
The offenses are not appealable, Hunter added.

Dale Earnhardt Jr's new Tradin' Paint Energy Drink
PURCHASE, N.Y. — AMP Energy has announced the launch of Tradin' Paint, a new limited time only Dale Earnhardt Jr. themed energy drink. The beverage is a collision of three flavors: Orange , Lime and Berry , with all the energy ingredients and great taste that consumers expect from AMP.
“Dale Jr. was very involved in creating this new AMP Energy flavor and it is a true representation of his taste and his sport,” said Lauren Hobart, VP of energy drinks, Pepsi-Cola North America Beverages. “The flavor and packaging embody the thrills and excitement of side-by-side racing at intense speeds - complete with a look that features all the bumps, scratches and crashes that Dale's car endures as it advances track position.”
Featuring the same paint scheme as Hendrick Motorsports' No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet, Tradin' Paint has all the marks, dings and paint streaks that show up on cars during a hotly contested race, which fans refer to as “tradin' paint.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been NASCAR's most popular driver for the past six years. With the launch of Tradin' Paint, his sponsor, AMP Energy, is giving fans an insider's nod to the passion and power of racing.
Tradin' Paint is currently available in a 16-oz can nationwide through the end of the summer.

Ex-NASCAR driver Kevin Grubb found dead in motel room
Kevin Grubb, whose NASCAR career was cut short because of alleged substance abuse, was found dead yesterday morning at a motel in Henrico County.
According to a Henrico police spokesman, personnel at Alpine Motel on the 7000 block of Brook Road discovered the Mechanicsville native in his room at about 11 a.m. Investigators did not speculate on the cause of death.
"Right now, it's an ongoing death investigation," said Henrico police Lt. Richard Cosby. "There doesn't appear to be anything unusual or suspicious [at the crime scene]."
Cosby said further details concerning Grubb's death are expected today.
Grubb, 31, was suspended indefinitely in September 2006 for failing to comply with NASCAR's substance-abuse policy while competing in the then-Busch Series (now Nationwide). He was suspended for refusing to submit to required testing following a race at Richmond International Raceway.
That had been Grubb's second violation of the sport's drug policy for reinstatement. He was first suspended in March 2004 for testing positive for banned substances. He was reinstated to drive in June 2006, with part of the conditions being an agreement that he submit to periodic drug testing at anytime.
"He would not submit to a drug test. We even gave him some time to think about it," NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter told reporters in 2006.

I'm totally bummed out
Yeah ok, Kyle Busch won at Richmond. Yes, he is a good driver but that doesn't mean I have to like the guy.
The race didn't become interesting (at least for me) until the second half. The race became a lot more interesting and crazier. That is the Richmond I like.
Now on to Junior. I don't know what to say, I mean I can't help but say he is a total disappointment to me. I decided to post a few questions for other race fans to answer because I want to know if other fans feel the same way as I.
1. Has Junior lost his mojo?
2. Do you think Rick Hendrick made a mistake hiring Junior?
3. Do you blame Junior for the poor finishes or do you put the blame on someone or something else?
4. What do you think needs to happen in order for Junior to finish better?
I love to read your answers to my posted questions. Please go ahead and speak your mind.

Crew member suspended for violations at Kansas
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Wesley Lane, a crew member for the No. 90 team in the Camping World Truck Series, has been suspended for the next six races and all NASCAR activity until July 1 for rule violations at Kansas Speedway.
Lane was found to be in violation of Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and Section 3-5 (permitting someone else to use your NASCAR License). Lane also has been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.
The No. 90 Toyota, owned by Doug Stringer, has made three starts this season, with Gabi DiCarlo behind the wheel. She finished a season-best 18th at Kansas despite not finishing the final lap because of steering.
